I was a little surprised watching the video on the TV tonight to see that it looked like he was really having to work at pulling that cart at the walk. He hadn't felt at all labored when I was driving him but he's clearly having to pull pretty steadily to get it anywhere. Given that, it's amazing he managed to move out at all. wacko.gif The cart is better on packed grass like you find at Happs, but I'm still glad we ordered a padded deep V breastcollar for CDE's. Should leave his shoulder free when pulling this heavy cart. We'll get a show cart for the mini shows (somehow. LOL...We need to win the lottery!)

We tried this halter on him. Can't afford it yet, but we sure want it! LOL. I also finally undercut his mane a little bit on Sunday morning before this picture was taken. It's still not where I want it but you can see his throatlatch now when he's driving.

That first picture made me laugh- thankyou, I needed a laugh!! I used to show a Grey-White mare- guess what she rolled in the night before?? smile.gif This was long before the days of Lycra, and assorted body suits, or even hoods. I usually ended up showing a slightly damp horse from morning washes laugh.gif In the fourth picture in you can just see that the cart is slightly tilted- possibly you need to look at raising the shafts a few holes on this sort of surface- if you are having no problems on grass you obviously have the balance right for that. I would also put that lovely halter up a notch or two on his nose- he has a true horse face, long and lean, and if the noseband were a little higher you might pull the face together a little more- I realise you have not bought it and were just trying it on, but if and when you do get it..... Overall it's looking good- and not a mouthful of dirt in sight rolleyes.gif
NOW - GO TO BED, you bad girl!!!!!

Aw, Fizz! ::whines:: Do I have to?? biggrin.gif The dirt never sticks around long...it either disappears into his tummy or gets rubbed off on my shirt depending on which method he chooses to annoy me with at any given time. rolleyes.gif Thanks for the comments on the halter, I was thinking along those lines myself. I need to work on his driving cavesson for the same reason; it's driving me nuts!

Look closely at that fourth picture- I think what you are seeing is the line of the traces and not the shafts themselves. The brass shaft tips are floating right up there at level on his shoulder. It probably looks a little downhill because my mom was videoing from the stands at the far end of the arena- the other shots all say the cart was riding correctly and I know that arena wasn't sloped! laugh.gif

Okay, sleeping now.

I'm clutching at straws, I know but it looks a wee bit unlevel to me- almost as if the horse has sunk more into the footing than the cart- it might be enough just to put him off his stride, altho' I would definitely have a good look at the Video to make sure you were not just imagining it- I think it far more relevant that he felt OK than that he looked bad!!!

Those are excellent photos. smile.gif
I think you are on a great track for greatness in the show ring!
YOu have a great relationship with him and you are in tune with his needs on top of all else.

That can't be any but good.

Thanks for sharing the pics.
